Pine Island, Matlacha, Matlacha Isles

These island communities are tucked away between the mainland of southwest Florida and Sanibel and Captiva Islands and a remnant of old Florida.

If you haven't visited Pine Island Florida, this you are missing one of Florida secret spots! Discover Matlacha, sometimes considered part of Pine Island, this narrow fun filled island offers crowded galleries, colorful shops and many fine restaurants. If you are wanting to live on the waterfront and have a boat docked in your back canal, this area provides quick gulf access to the island beaches and near the hottest fishing grounds. If you like to shore fish there is a drawbridge in Matlacha that you can fish off from, live bait shops are just steps away, and if your needing breakfast and hot coffee it's all right there. This sleepy little village wakes up at night with local pubs and live music!

Once you cross the last bridge leaving Matlacha, everything changes. Heading west down Pine Island Rd, after a 5 minute picturesque ride, you will reach Stringfellow Rd at Pine Island Center, the center of Pine Island, the commercial center of the island. Here you will find grocery stores, a hardware store, a few convenient retailers, suppliers, fire station, Pine Island Community Center and Pool and more!

When you arrive at Pine Island Center you can travel north approximately 7 miles to the waterfront community of Bokeelia with a population of approximately 2,000 people or travel south approximately 8 miles to another waterfront community of St James City with a population of approximately 3,800. Fishing, guide tours and farming with palms and fruit trees, primarily mangoes, coconuts and avocados remain an important part of Pine Island life.

You will find many people move here for the peacefulness of nature, the love of the water, birdlife, marine life and fishing. You can find beautiful homes on the water for sale in broad price ranges depending on size, view and location. Some prefer to enjoy their acreage lots where they can have all of their toys, boats, recreational vehicles and just green space. There are several full service marinas on the islands, some have boat storage, dry docks, wet slips. If you trailer a boat, there are many boat ramps to choose from.
